Australian National Survey on Dry Body Brushing Is This What YOU Really Think about Dry Brushing?

A few years ago I wanted to find out the thoughts and practices of women regarding dry body brushing. In 2009 I interviewed 124 women, aged from 21-65 years old who lived all over Australia. I discovered that just over half of the participants regularly practiced dry body brushing and majority confessed they didn’t know how to dry brush. Disturbingly, most of the participants who did own a body brush had synthetic bristles, which will not give them the desired results. All the participants requested that they would welcome information about how to dry brush, what type of brush they should use and why they should dry brush. Most participants gathered their information about dry body brushing from magazines.

Here are the top health benefits which the participants received from dry brushing:

1. Skin exfoliation and then

2. Increase circulation

3. Remove bumpy skin

4. Reduce toxins

5. Increase lymphatic drainage

6. Reduce cellulite and ingrown hairs

 7. Feels good

8. Assists with the relief of arthritis

9. Helps with chronic fatigue

10. Helped reduce acne

Body brushing by a professional had a very positive response:

“Would you like Dry Body Brushing incorporated into body treatments at a spa/salon?” 106 Participants – YES 18 Participants – NO

“Would you pay for a complete Dry Body Brush treatment in a spa/salon?” 93 Participants – YES 31 Participants – NO
