Why Mother Nature Will Love You for Using Bamboo Toothbrushes
Rebecca Gaspert > 19 March 2018
We all know that plastic isn’t great for the earth.
Actually, it’s pretty much the opposite!
Thankfully, as we’ve become more aware of the impact of plastic on wildlife and the environment, researchers have been able to develop recyclable versions of a range of everyday products.
However, there are still some plastic products that are a part of our throw-away culture.
And one of the worst of these is the humble toothbrush.
Why ditch plastic toothbrushes?
Let’s do some maths for a moment (I promise it’ll be the easy kind).
Your dentist tells you to change your toothbrush every three months, but if you’re like most people, you probably change it every six.
Still, over 80 years, that’s 160 plastic toothbrushes per person that will end up in landfill, or the ocean! Toothbrushes that will never break down or biodegrade. Toothbrushes that are here to stay forever.
We know it makes sense to minimise our use of plastic as much as possible, but some of our plastic items are a little hard to part with.
However, making the switch to bamboo toothbrushes for yourself and your family is one of the simplest and easiest ways to make a meaningful difference to how you impact the planet. And you can be sure Mother Nature will be thanking you!
The benefits of bamboo
Bamboo toothbrushes are such a sensible idea, it’s a wonder no-one thought of them sooner!
The toothbrushes’ handles are made from bamboo, which is one of Mother Nature’s most amazing natural materials. The wood has anti-microbial properties, so bamboo toothbrushes don’t need to be chemically treated. (Considering you put them in your mouth, this makes a non-chemical option pretty appealing!)
As an added bonus, bamboo is a fast-growing, easy-going plant. This means that bamboo sourced from the right places (not forests full of pandas) is a sustainable and renewable material. Because it’s 100% natural, bamboo breaks down naturally when you’re done with it, composting and returning its nutrients to the earth. This is a much better result than plastic toothbrushes, which damage the environment and hurt animals.
A super easy switch
Best of all, switching to bamboo toothbrushes is the easiest thing in the world.
It just means taking a moment to order them online. And it won’t even break the bank.
For example, if you buy a 10 pack of “slim” brush Bodecare bamboo toothbrushes, the total cost per toothbrush is only $3.50. This is cheaper than many other bamboo toothbrushes on the market, and entirely comparable to the cost of environmentally disastrous, brand-name plastic toothbrushes. Plus it will probably take care of your family for at least a year – maybe longer.
With all the benefits of bamboo toothbrushes, you really would be crazy not to give them a go, right?
You can be sure the earth will be thanking you from the bottom of its heart!
